With 2018 coming to a close, it’s time to start looking forward. Although this year brought us the continued hype of the dad shoe and cargo pants, 2019 looks to be an even more exciting year for men’s fashion. As we look ahead, here are some of the menswear trends that I am looking forward to most in this new year.
New and improved tailoring
With baggier, looser cuts and styles consuming mainstream menswear in recent years, the shift has begun back towards more tailoring and suit focused designs. High end labels are rolling out suits in fresh new cuts to help reenergize the classic suit. Another sign of the growing trend towards rocking a suit on the daily? Urban Outfitters, a brand long known for its accessible streetwear for the average buyer, launched a line of men’s suits, showing the demand that young men are beginning to have for tailoring.
Utility gear keeps going strong
Cargo pants, hiking boots, tactical vests, all apart of the growing movement in menswear of utility fashion. This trend in menswear looks like it has no plans to go away anytime soon, and I’m not mad about it. Whatever your style, there’s a way to incorporate it into your everyday look. Like to keep things a bit more simple, invest in a nice pair of the “new” cargo pants to stay hip, but remaining classic at the same time. Have more of a streetwear edge? Invest in a tactical vest to add some oomph to your simplest of outfits. Or, if you have more of that art student vibe, opt for a pair of carpenter pants (cropping optional) for your new go to pair of slacks.
Menswear looks to stay exciting with bold colors and prints for spring 2019. Look for graphic knits, neon day glo, and tie dye to spice up your wardrobe in the coming months. Sound intimidating? Don’t worry, all of this can be done in moderation and eased into your closet. Try investing in a simple tee shirt that can be layered under a jacket or cardigan in spring to tone down the neon or tie dye if it seems to be a bit much at first. Feeling especially bold? Look for a strong graphic sweater that is sure to stand out on a beautiful spring day.
Embrace the outdoors
This spring, get inspired by the great outdoors and all that surrounds you. In terms of colors, sage was one of the hottest colors on the runway and is a super easy color to work into your wardrobe, it goes great with darker tones such as navy, browns, and deep purples. Along with that, Pantone’s 2019 color of the year is Living Coral, a bright coral color that is bound to brighten up your closet. The outdoors takes on another trend in the shape of the return of short shorts and the continued prevalence of hiking sandals. Incorporating both of these into your wardrobe are bound to keep you on trend and stylish in the coming year.
