With most schools and colleges about a month into classes, it still feels like the back-to-school time of the year, especially as my courses have only now been kicking into high gear. In gearing up for the school year, we’re so often caught up in the books we need to get or the new clothes or a new haircut, but we forget about our shoes. I mean most college students are walking a lot throughout the day, so shoes are important not only functionally, but also in terms of style. So, here are my favorite back-to-school shoe essentials.
Vans Old Skools
Vans have been having quite the comeback in recent years (they’re checkerboard slip-ons were one of my favorites last year) and are see everywhere on campus. However, most people stick to the classic black color way, but if you want to stay on trend and stand out, go for a more unconventional color like this tan version. The best part about these shoes is how comfortable and versatile they are. Throw them on with a pair of shorts, jeans, or even dress down a pair of dress pants, anything goes with Vans.
Birkenstock Arizonas
Birkenstocks are really one of those shoes that you either love or hate, but I choose to LOVE them. They are a great option if you just need to slip on pair of shoes quick before your 8 AM class or walking around all day. Providing great arch support, Birkenstocks take a bit to break in, but once you’ve done that, they’re amazingly comfy. They’re also a great shoe to transition from summer to fall as you can even wear them with socks. Although they might be a bit of an investment, they last forever and look better the more they age.
Teva Original Universal
Another pair of sandals? Got that right. Tevas are the sportier sibling to Birkenstocks, but are another great option for back-to-school. They provide great arch support and have awesome tread on them, so they are perfect for those weekend hiking trips you might go on or for the next festival you go to. My pair come in a grey pattern (similar here) that goes great with anything, but Teva also offers a wide array of colors and patters, whatever your heart desires. Go grab a pair for yourself!
This back-to-school season, don’t forget about your feet and what shoes you’re wearing! Investing in quality, classic styles will allow you to not buy shoes as frequently, which is great because shoes can be fairly expensive for a college students budget. Until next time!
