I know what you’re thinking already, “I’m just going to end up looking like Justin Timberlake at the AMAs.” Throw that idea out of your head because denim on denim is so much more than that and is going to be your secret to stealing the show this summer.
An all denim look, better known as a Canadian tuxedo, is super simple to pull off. The most important thing to remember when wearing this look is to go out there with confidence and know that you’re rocking this look. Don’t know where to start looking for denim? Look no further than one of my favorite thrifted shops, Jeans by Keely. Her site features both custom and one of a kind pieces for great prices—I’m wearing her custom denim shorts throughout this post. Plus, if you use the code “JACKSON” at checkout, you’ll get 15% off your order!
Although Canadian tuxedos may seem like more of a fall or winter look, it can easily transition to a perfect summer outfit. since it’s getting warmer out the first step is too find a great pair of denim shorts. The best part about denim is the variety of colors and washes they come in. You can keep it classic with a pair of blue or black denim shorts if you’re just dipping your toes into the world of all denim. Otherwise, go a bit bolder! Try on some white or even overly distressed denim to add some punch to your look.
Moving on up, when you’re choosing a shirt, try and stay away from matching the washes of your denim on top and bottom as this can make it a bit more JT/Britney feeling. Similar shirt to mine can be found here. Looking for classic silhouettes and simple button ups are a great way to dress up the all denim look for a summer party or event. If you’re feeling extra bold, throw on a denim jacket, potentially something a bit more vintage to give the final look an edge.
Finish off your outfit with a simple pair of shoes such as an all white slip on or a neutral like my Vans seen above. The key to experimenting with all denim looks is by starting off simple and slowly building up. Plus when you wear all denim, you’re sure to stand out in the crowd (I know I get my fair share of reactions) and by keeping it simple, you’re sure to wow this summer.
Until next time!
